Alliance between Employment Service and WCC to improve labor market conditions for Colombians

 

May 31, 2018. Helping people find sustainable jobs is probably the most effective way to increase a nation’s well-being and prosperity. It creates income, grows the economy, and adds security to people’s lives. That is why the Public Employment Service (SPE) of Colombia is dedicated to supporting Colombians in their search for employment, and supporting entrepreneurs in attracting suitable human talent.

 

To continue strengthening this work, the director of the Colombian SPE, Isabel Cristina De Ávila, formed an alliance with WCC, an international leader in software, consulting and knowledge services aimed at public employment services. The purpose of this alliance is to share knowledge on good practices, technological developments and other new ideas to improve and expand their services.

 

The SPE and WCC will also work together to improve the Colombian IT system. "Our technological infrastructure effectively brings together jobseekers and companies searching for personnel. Yet we are always looking for ways to complement and improve our platform. Our organization embraces the use of technology and we are at the forefront of the digital era. We decided to ally with WCC to learn about best practices other PES use. We are confident that as a result, more Colombians will find formal and sustainable work, and the private sector will attract the right human talent", said De Ávila.

 

Under their alliance:

-WCC will transfer knowledge on the implementation of IT systems for public employment services from its international experience. It will also connect SPE with allied public employment services to transfer knowledge on employability and population assistance programs. WCC will facilitate and host a webinar in which SPE will share knowledge with its colleagues in other countries. SPE will also gain access to other virtual programs that WCC leads through its platform.

 

-The SPE in turn will support WCC’s referencing strategy and relationships to other public employment services in Latin America. SPE will be the main presenter in a WCC-hosted webinar, and share their experiences regarding the developments in the Colombian employment services.

Currently, Colombians register their CV through the technological platform of the SPE. Here, they find and apply for the available job opportunities in the country. Through the same platform, employers can find personnel by registering their company and publishing their vacancies.

 

Thanks to this process, the employment agencies of the Cajas de Compensación Familiar and local authorities are able to provide guidance and (skills) training to jobseekers to improve their profile, facilitating the link to a formal job, and provide advice and permanent support to employers so that they can count on finding suitable human talent.

 

In addition, the SPE developed the "My SPE" application for iOS and Android, which uses georeferencing technology to help people locate the closest Service Point, find the available vacancies, request information, and register resumes, companies, and vacancies.

 

The alliance is carried out within the framework of "SPE with ICT", an SPE-led initiative which aims to highlight the organization’s great effort toward digital transformation to ensure effective matching between labor demand and supply in Colombia.
