On Wednesday, March 20th, the WAPES Executive Secretariat and the VP of Americas (USA) met with representatives from the International Labor Organization (ILO) Employment Branch.
The ILO is an official observer of WAPES and since the last World Congress in Morocco increased collaboration has been discussed. WAPES and the ILO hope to better align activities that support public employment services worldwide through greater collaboration at the organization and country levels.
Participants in the meeting discussed many policy areas including the future of work, support of older workers, youth employment, and digital service delivery. Over the coming months WAPES and the ILO will be working towards a formal memorandum of understanding for greater collaboration behalf of WAPES members.
The representatives of ILO were: Mr Sangheon Lee, Director Employment Policy Department - Sukti DASGUPTA Chief, Employment and Labour Market Policies Branch - Mrs Dorothea SCHMIDT-KLAU, Head, Department Management and Coordination Unit, Employment Policy Department - Mr. Michael MWASIKAKATA Senior Specialist and Coordinator, Employment Services and ALMPs.
