From the 10th to the 12th of July, the organizing committee of the international conference of the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES) and its Africa Region through the African Association of Public Employment Services (AAPES), held its first preparatory meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in the conference room of the National Employment Fund (FNE).
The representative of the WAPES Executive Secretariat, Mrs. Jacqueline Mukamusana, the representatives of the AAPES President, Mr. Ibrahim Ag Nock, Director General of the ANPE of Mali, and the members of the local organization of the FNE attended this meeting.
The aim of this meeting was the final adoption of the theme of the High-Level Round Table on "the relevance of the public employment service (PES) mission in the promotion of employment and the fight against unemployment"; the sub-themes of the international conference which main theme is "Employment – Youth and Migration: what challenges and opportunities for public employment services?"; the identification and distribution of tasks between the parties of the conference with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the AAPES; the drafting of the budget of the 2 events; identification of the venues to host the conference and accommodation of participants and finally, the consolidation of the agenda (program) of all activities.
It should be noted that the meeting was held under the watchful eye of the President of Honor of WAPES, Mr. Camille Mouté à Bidias, the Director General of the FNE.
After 3 days of hard work, the committee achieved the expected results of the meeting since all the points mentioned above were discussed and validated. They will now be submitted to the concerning parties and will then their implementation will be followed up according to the agreed timetable.
It should be remembered that the conference will be held from 17 to 19 September 2019 in the majestic site of the hotel Mont Fébé located in the Febe Mountain overlooking the city of Yaoundé. The opening ceremony will be co-chaired by the Ministers of Employment and Vocational Training of Cameroon and Mali, Issa Tchiroma Bakari and Jean Claude Sidibé.
WAPES currently has 85 public employment services from countries in every continent of the world grouped into 5 geographical regions, and among which, the Africa Region stands out with 20 member countries. This makes this region, after the Europe Region-composed of 37 countries and as many PESs-the most representative in terms of number of member countries (20).
This first preparatory meeting (the second and last one will be held 3 days just before the event in Yaoundé to take stock of the organization and check that everything is on schedule) also coincided with the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between the FNE and the Town Hall of Yaoundé’s 4th Arrondissement in the areas of recruitment and strengthening of human resources in the said municipality. This took place on July 11th, 2019 in the premises of the Head Office of the FNE in the presence of several administrative and political personalities.
That is to say that employment issues are a major concern not only for public employment services (PES), but for everyone, local authorities in particular. Because, if the policy in this area is designed and developed at the state level, its implementation involves all development actors and especially the national economy and in which no one can deny the place and role of communities and local stakeholders.
We can hardly wait for September to see experts from all over the world come together to the African land of Cameroon to discuss, exchange and share experiences and good practices on employment and youth issues and their close links with migration around the world.
