Mid-term meeting of the G7 working group in Paris
On 13 November 2024, the mid-term meeting of the G7 working group, organised by WAPES, was held in Paris on the premises of France Travail. This event was part of a series of discussions begun in spring 2024, aimed at tackling the challenges of demographic ageing through international collaboration.
A common challenge: ageing populations
Faced with low birth rates and tight labour markets, public employment services in G7 countries are working to adapt their strategies to ensure professional inclusion at all stages of life. The meeting highlighted innovative approaches to support older workers, including tailored job search tools, skills development programmes and initiatives to help employers create inclusive work environments.
A program rich in exchanges
The day began with opening remarks by Ms. Florence Dumontier, Director of European and International Relations at France Travail, followed by a speech by Mr. Romano Benini, from the Italian Ministry of Labor, who emphasized the importance of cooperation to meet G7 priorities. Presentations by representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States provided an opportunity to share key data and good practices. Notable contributions included the International Labor Organization (ILO), the OECD, and the European Commission, who provided global perspectives on active employment policies and strategies against ageism.
In the afternoon, a “World Café” format encouraged interactive discussions on a variety of topics, including career development, reintegration of older workers and support for employers.
On the road to the WAPES World Congress
The conclusions of this meeting will enrich a comprehensive working document that will be presented at the WAPES World Congress in Abidjan in May 2025. This day of exchanges reaffirmed the importance of global collaboration to address common challenges in labor markets. A video report of the event is available below.
