Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between ILO and WAPES

Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between ILO and WAPES

Determined to strengthen and develop existing forms of collaboration, to explore new ones in areas of common interest and to contribute to the achievement of the relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), within their respective mandates, WAPES and ILO (the International Labour Organisation) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday 28 November 2022.

This document consolidates the collaboration between our two institutions. As a reminder, WAPES was created in 1988 within ILO. Since then, the International Labour Organisation has acted as the official observer of the governing bodies of our association and has played a monitoring role in the nominations, elections and consultations provided for in the statutes.

The objective of this MoU is to foster cooperation between our two institutions in the areas of knowledge development and dissemination, skills and tools upgrading, as well as technical advisory services and cooperation.

This agreement, signed by Mr. Sangheon LEE, Director of the ILO Employment Department, and Mr. Noureddine BENKHALIL, President of WAPES, reinforces our association’s strategy of alliance and opening up to other institutions. Our collaboration will shortly become more apparent, particularly with the start of the reflection process on Convention 88, which regulates the public employment services.

The signing of the Protocol took place in Bern, where the WAPES Managing Board was also meeting to plan the activities for 2023.
