Recruitment and AI: a resource for WAPES members to explore

policy brief fr recrutement et sélection ia

Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in recruitment practices. Sorting tools, pre-selection assistance, automation of certain tasks: the promise of greater efficiency is real. But this development also raises fundamental questions, particularly in terms of equality, bias and non-discrimination.

In this context, the documentation published by the Institute for Gender Equality is a particularly useful resource for WAPES members. Focusing on recruitment and selection in the age of AI, it offers an analysis of current practices, a reflection on the risks associated with these tools, and recommendations for better regulating their use.

This material is interesting for our network for several reasons. Firstly, because public employment services around the world are directly affected by the digital transformation of recruitment practices. Secondly, because this publication addresses a key issue for PES: how to innovate without compromising equal access to employment.

The complete documents are available in French and Dutch, while a policy brief in English allows a wider audience to quickly grasp the main findings and recommendations.

Beyond the Belgian context, this publication offers useful food for thought for many countries. It can fuel discussions on how public institutions, recruiters and labour market partners can integrate AI in a responsible, transparent and inclusive manner. It also serves as a reminder that, when it comes to recruitment, technical efficiency can never be separated from the quality of human and ethical safeguards.

For WAPES members, this documentation can therefore serve as a concrete starting point: to better understand the issues at stake, fuel internal debates, or inspire practices that are more attentive to equality in an increasingly digitalised environment.

We encourage our members to consult this publication in order to draw useful lessons for their own institutional contexts.
