WEBINAR : Fair Recruitment in a Digital Age: Migration, Labour Rights & the Role of Public Employment Services

In a world of increasing labour mobility and rapid digital transformation, ensuring fair and ethical recruitment is more important than ever. This webinar brings together voices from Public Employment Services, workers’ organisations, international institutions, and research to explore how migration flows, digital tools, and global labour standards intersect.
In this context, the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) are co-hosting a webinar focused on fair recruitment in the digital age. This webinar will also feature a country case study from the National Employment Authority of Kenya, highlighting the effective measures they have taken in order to increase fair recruitment.
The event will be held in English, but interpretation will be available in English, French and Spanish.
Speaker

Labour Migration Specialist – (Fair Recruitment Initiative Coordinator)- Labour Migration Branch·International Labor Organisation, ILO
Maria Gallotti has worked at the ILO since 2000 in the fields of gender equality, labour migration and fair recruitment.
Prior to joining the Labour Migration Branch in 2010 she worked in different ILO positions at field and headquarters level, supporting the development and implementation of policies and practices for promotion of gender equality at work, the protection of migrant worker’s rights and the prevention of labour exploitation, with a specific focus on women migrant workers and migrant domestic workers, among others.
She currently acts as global coordinator of the ILO global Fair Recruitment Initiative (FRI).
She holds a European master’s degree in human rights and democratization and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Pavia, Italy.

Professor of Information Systems – Royal Holloway Business School, Royal Holloway, University of London
G. ‘Hari’ Harindranath is a Professor of Information Systems in the Business School at Royal Holloway, University of London. His research centres on the societal implications of digital technologies, responsible digital, and digital for development (ICT4D). He has a particular interest in the digital practices of vulnerable groups such as labour migrants. During 2019-24, Hari co-led an intervention work package on digital technologies and migration within the UK government funded UKRI GCRF Migration for Development and Equality Hub (MIDEQ) which focused on leveraging digital technologies to address the inequalities associated with migration.

Consultant·WAPES
Nicole Clobes is a certified intercultural trainer and educator, currently seconded to the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES) from the German Federal Employment Agency. She holds degrees in communication, education, and organizational psychology, and has worked in both frontline and managerial roles in public employment services since 2016. Nicole has led international cooperation initiatives and co-authored major publications in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank and the OECD.

Human and Trade Unions Rights – Officer·International Trade Union Confederation
Ira Rachmawati is a Human and Trade Union Rights Officer at the ITUC, where she leads work on fair recruitment and migrant workers’ rights through initiatives such as the Recruitment Advisor platform, and coordinates global trade union advocacy on forced and child labour. With a background in Indonesia’s trade union movement, she brings grounded experience from Asia to ITUC’s international campaigns.

Technical Specialist – ILO
Anna-Karin Palm Olsson has been at the ILO for since 2022 working as a Technical Specialist on Labour market services. Her work include capacity building country support, promotion of International Labour standards within employment services such as Convention 88 and Convention 181 as well as a range of other tasks
She comes from Arbetsförmedlingen (Swedish Public Employment Services) where she worked for over 17 years mostly as an Operations Controller of international affairs including EU commitments and international development cooperation. She has worked with the free movement of workers within the EU and mobility of workers globally. Anna-Karin holds a Masters Degree in International Legal Sciences, specializing in European Union Law and Human Rights. She believes that employment is the strongest poverty reductor we have today and in an inherent right for all persons to move freely across borders.

Director General – National Employment Authority (NEA), Kenya
Edith has vast experience in Employment promotion and strategies, Research and data Management, Labour Migration Management and Human Resource Management. In addition to this practical experience, she holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Bachelor of Law degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration.
